BP Kill Fest
Ok folks, wondering if anyone is interested in a Kill Fest. I know we had a similar contest when I started playing years ago, but I cannot seem to find any rules, etc. for it.
I was thinking if we run this contest it would run a minimum of 6 weeks and perhaps go 12 or so weeks so we can get some decent kill totals.
Before I start running it, I would like to see if any of the older managers remember the rules. Otherwise I might go along these lines:
1) Challenge any one you can! So up-challenge or down-challenge to your hearts content.
We could count each kill as 1 point, OR perhaps 2 points for regular, 1 for down-challenge, 3 or up-challenge. Or we just count a kill as a kill.
2) Blood Challenge kills count as a kill as well.
Or a Elbow Drop kills as nada BUT a successfull BC defensive kill counts as 2?
Ok guys please input if you want to do a Kill Fest and on the rules as well. I am open to suggestions or slaps upside to head from the vets.
Im going to change all my Blood Cries as well if we get this thing rolling so perhaps we can get the 90% or so we never input to actually start joining the ranks.
Here are the modified rules for the Kill Fest.
1) All kills but PEASANT kills count towards a manager's total.
2) Team Kills (with the exception of rule #1) count as well.
3) Blood Challenge kills count towards a manager's total. Hoping to see MANY of these as well as some feuds....
4) Contest will run from June 9th, 2012 for 8 weeks, unless there is no winner in which case it will continue week to week until one manager has the most kills.

It sounds like you are proposing a newb slaughter-fest, which sounds like a miserable time... for the newbs.

I might suggest you just keep it simple - one kill is one point regardless of how it came about - including via team fights. It sure make a contest easier to judge and it might even get some fueds started...

Simple works for me -one kill equals one point. Not sure how I feel about team kills...as they do not count as individual kills I've never been too big on them. But we can count them if people wish. I would 'never' take advantage of newbs. At least not at first.......

I will refrain from posting my public gladiator's fights for the duration of the contest, so any tweaks applied will not be known and able to be countered by a kill seeking manager.
Hey, gotta look out for everyone's virtual 26th & 27th gladiators!
As for team kills.... Hmmm, that's a tough one. My knee jerk reaction is to say they shouldn't count, but a kill's a kill's a kill.

Yes a kill is a kill so perhaps we will count them.....still waiting for the verdict from others on that one. Thinking 6 weeks minimum perhaps go as long as 12 (but think that would be way to long....)

Team fight kills do count for your record (your manager record). As the kill was a result of teamwork, no individual warrior gets the kill on their record. But as far as I can see this contest is not about individual warriors, is it? So in that case why not count team kills. Of course peasant kills should not be counted - they are not included on manager kill records.
Here's the problem with asking the community, almost no one does team fights and so they don't understand what a team fight really is or the value of it. You can't milk wins out of team fights unless you are fighting peasants. I have seen team fights where an entire five man team was killed off by another manager. Also different strategies and activity levels can be applied to great effect - things that would normally not work in singles. Team fights really can be interesting - the only problem is that you need an opponent to enjoy them.
Anyway, your contest, so do what is simplest and seems most appropriate for you.

Im leaning towards counting all kills (well not the peasants) and running it for 8 or so weeks so we can get some decent runs...hopefully

I would like to see only upchallenge, got-challenged, and random match-up kills count. Downchallenge kills seem weak.
Question: How far can one actually downchallenge if not a bloodfeud? Could a 100-fight warrior challenge a 10-fight?
Another interesting idea might be to just include kills between participating managers. Hopefully there are 8 or 10 of us on this board who would participate. That would lead to some smacktalk and perhaps a more personal feel to the slaughter; and less random newbies (or managers who aren't on this board) wondering why everyone is killing their warriors. It might also encourage a few managers who only occasionally read this board to get involved.
I have also considered posting some information about this game on some related forums in an attempt to increase the number of managers. I wonder if Keeper would be ok with this? The good news is that on my first turn in Feb 2010 there were 65 managers that played. Last turn there were 66, so at least it seems to be pretty steady.

John, I do not think you can challenge someone that low.....once upon a time, Xavier had a link that would let you know who was within 10% up/down for challenge purposes (I think it was 10%). When I was saying down-challenge I was referring to hitting anyone below you...but Im not really sure how low on the list you go before it would be low blow challenge....but as I dont think you can really challenge too low, think all kills will be counting except peasants. As to having managers fight it out, we had a Circle of Death (I think it was called) a few years ago....we can always go that way again after this. And yes, hopefully people will get pissed at getting challenged and killed and start spouting off in a good natured way over it either here or in SmalkTalk. I have all my lines set to Minute 1 and You(Your Foe) has taken heavy damage announcing the Kill Fest and the http for this site. Hopefully a few others will include something along those lines as well to get some of these managers involved. And good luck posting about the Pit, as Ive done so before and have managed to wrangle a few people (think you are one that has actually stuck with the Pit). Nev snagged me when he posted on a short-lived game called GladiatorGames (I think it was)--that one would have been awesome, as it had tons of races, classes and weapons/armor of various grades, etc...but it fell off the map years ago. Pit of War is coming along, with the new races and think when Nate and Eric put in the conquests it will get better--but that one is still weighed in favor of paying customers, even though you can do pretty good without paying

You can't announce the start date the same day you do the announcement.
I'm not ready for a kill fest and haven't worked that into any of my strategies or issued challenges. Two weeks from now? That way I can put in announcements to run next week. That still doesn't seem like much time to attract people with ads. Two weeks of blood cry ads would be better than one (or zero).

Sweet! I'll put some ads in gladiator's blood cries. What do your ads say, Klag?
Here's what I've got so far:
KILL FEST CONTEST BEGINS JUNE 9TH! CHECK OUT BLOODPIT.AIMOO.COM FOR DETAILS!
I have 23 of my guys screaming this when their opponent hits medium damage. Let's hope my guys do well enough next turn to get the word out.

Klag, you can simplify you message and nuke the "http://" bit you have so ingeniously typed up. I think it will just confuse people. Once they see the ".com" at the end of the URL, I do believe most people will understand that it is a website to go to.
