Sweep Weapons

Post  Lelu Dallas on Mon Oct 19, 2015 3:16 pm

Sooooo

What are the rules on what makes a weapon able to sweep? Is it sheer size? If so, what is the splitting value between 'yes can sweep with' and 'no that's not gonna work'?

Are there any large weapons that can't sweep/sweep poorly.

The possible source of my confusion on this is rooted in:

Javelin weight 2.5 - yes a sweeper
Scythe weight 3.5 - no, not a sweeper (?)

Am I crazy or is there some lack of consistency here?

You cannot sweep with anything under size 4. Javelin = not sweep.

I'll go through and look, but I swear I've swept with javelin.

Sweeping weapons were decided by the programmers and follow no rules that I can see (other than common sense - mostly). The 4 lb comment isn't correct.  I sweep regularly (and effectively) with the longsword (3.2 lbs) and flail (3.6 lbs).  I also feel like the francisca and possibly the small pick can sweep.

It is silly that the scythe can't sweep.  I think I posted a thread about that a couple years ago.

The javelin definitely cannot sweep.  If it could, the boar spear would need to hand over the trophy.

Hmmm... that weight of four for sweeps is stuck in my head, but you are right about the longsword and flail sweeping. So much for my memory.

All flails do sweep.

Vic, you might have just said it backwards.  It looks to me like all weapons 4 lbs or more can be used to sweep, except shields.

But shields have a special barreling attack which can knock an opponent to the ground. Not the same as sweep, but it can have the same effect of putting your opponent on his butt.

Does charge help shield rushes then? Or just trains in that particular type of shield??

Yes, charge will help with those attacks. Problem is, they don't happen very often.

I can confirm that flails, all flails, will sweep. As for other weapons... I have swept with a net before...not consistently, but I had a few net users sweep before. I have been sweep by a peasant with a net.

I've never seen the net sweep. I'm doing a search for an instance now. I've had trident/net users try to sweep me with their trident, but not the net. I've seen attack lines that have a net "sweeping" toward its target, but that's not an attempt to knock someone on the ground. Just colorful language.

Yes, the flail and longsword sweep.
Modofo, where are you finding your weapon weights data?
I can't seem to find that info anywhere anymore.
Keeper used to have an updated list, but that page has gone kaput.
I know that weapon weights have changed a number of times under differing owners.
I would not be surprised if Keeper has not changed some stuff since last the list was updated.
Yes, scythe should sweep, IMO.
Longsword does, but it was as 4 weight during the last time I peeked at Keepers list.
Anyway, I was under the impression from my own search that Flail was the smallest weapon that could sweep.
The flail was last listed as a 3.5, if I recall.
Anyway, it is probably a fair bet that 3.5 and up can sweep and less than that can't.
I'd love to hear if anyone has found different. If course we'd need to have the current weapon weight list to check.
I don't suppose anyone copied that list recently?
I don't play, so I can't do any experimenting here, but as a fan of the sport, I would like to know.

I have been basing my ideas on weapons weight off the chart Vic has up.

http://vicvegas.com/BP_HELP/Pit.htm

Under weapon requirements if you've never used this site.

From what Dux just said, it sounds like this might not be up to date?

An up to date version would be clutch if this is out of date.

(And like can't I just get a smaller ball and chain? Why does it have to be so damn heavy???)

Nev updated the chart I'm hosting (he made the BP Help File) when keeper added the new weapons. I think Nev's chart might still, inaccurately, list the trident as a two handed weapon.

I use that same chart.  It was posted by Ilneval on the old web site on 9/03/2009.

It also erroneously lists bastard sword as two handed? Or is it like old D&D can be used one or 2

Uh, by all means, give your guys a big heavy bastard sword with one hand.  I can always use a good murder.

Might I suggest the secret combo of open hand with off-hand bastard sword? Run him with defend 9. A sure fire winner!
