No big hits.  No trick skills on display.  Just an old-fashioned fight to the death.

That's two stilettoeer monsters, with different races, that I've created now, so hopefully any doubts about the weapon have been suffocated in their sleep. (Yup, [checks notes] zero knife/shield monsters!!!)

If we look at REPLACEMENT BO's (RB from now on) first fight, we see a completely different looking gladiator and that he was dropping hints about the direction his training would take.

After losing his next two fights he then tried a small pick/target shield combo.  At 4-3-0 he gave the pickaxe a try.  At 6-5-0 he tried a stiletto/tower shield combo.  After 4 wins a row, he finally picked up his first stiletto train and another victory.  Naturally, once he committed to that weapon, the losses started trickling in again and soon enough he's sitting at 16-16-0.  Though, the trains keep on piling up.  I knew it would be a struggle taking a cookie-cutter CS dwarf design and running a halfling instead.  He hovered around 50% for a good part of his youth.  His first murder was on turn 840.

Clearly, he was running out of things to train.  After a sweep mastery, he was going to train boar spear.  I didn't want his pre any higher than 12, or he would start needlessly losing fights too quickly.  I would say RB was my best trainer to date.  I thought APPLE NEWTON did a great job, but RB hit 25-25-25-25 about a year faster than him.  Twenty freaking dex trains... unbelieveable.  RB is my second to achieve Ultimate Gladiator (turn 1038) and the third to do so in the arena.  (If you achieve it through scum team fighting, then zero recognition will be given by me, as there was no challenge involved.)

I've had RB listed as experimental halfling on my Vic Vegas Scorecard for years now, as he has been one long, running experiment.  He had lost 6 fights in a row, before capping his career with defeating JOSEPH SMITH and murdering SEE JANE STAB.  Those 6 losses were due to... you guessed it, experimenting.  Right up to the end, I kept on learning from him.  Naturally, for a monster fight, he pulled out all the stops and those years of experimenting paid off, as he has more than one strategy dialed in to defend his Monster Slot.

Alright, alright, I'll present RB's final singles fight, where he was experimenting, once again, but still managed to defeat a fierce foe.

Smallest vs largest blade with almost 2 full minutes of martial combat, the first time RB had ever tried it, too.  I do believe my stable is 7-2 vs JOSEPH SMITH.  How's that 50th loss taste?  Oh, look, JS sat out this turn in fear of another one of my gladiators.  Had I not snuck in RB's last minute monster challenge, I'm sure JS would have found the courage to step onto the sands, knowing his new nemesis would not be facing him.

The monsters now have three gladiators with 25-25-25-25 stats.  A dwarf, a helf and now a halfling.

We've yet to see an Ultimate Gladiator lose his slot.

Becoming a monster is getting harder.  Get 'em in now before its too late!  I'm lookin' at you GERARD!  You could be a monster right now.  Hunter, send me a PM with any questions you may have on the topic.  I'll gladly pass along some tried and true, sage advice about monstering.  Sleazee knows what I'm talkin' about, cuz I didn't start getting any monsters until he shared it with me.    Hmmm... or was it post LOPHOMASTIX?  I think it was, and it just so happened that LOPHO was running in accordance with the advice, without me knowing it.  Ha!  So, Sleazee's advice is directly linked to my second through fifth monsters.  Thanks, mate!

Oh, heck, if I'm now at the Thanking stage of the speech, then I must bow and scrape at the feet of Palor and Dux.  Palor took me under his wing when I was wide eyed, naked and running a host of losers.  Dux, ever the zen master, never talked specifics, which was quite mystifying at first, but I kept listening, and slowly learning the truth of his sage advice.  The greatest gift from Dux was learning what Manager Discipline is all about.

I wouldn't have any of my current beasts if it weren't for Manager Discipline. I think the last time I had so many brutes, my stable was packed with boarspear dwarves.

I must try a halfing with Stiletto again. Only had a couple of goes. Mr Nice was my best attempt at 91.67.3. before he died. Perm kill as well!

I monstered my other halfling stilettoeer attempt on his 100th fight. VELVETEEN BLOODBATH was a disappointing gladiator. I prefer elves with the stiletto, personally, but I can't argue with halflings using them. Just don't expect their records to be as good as their pointy eared cousins.
