Latest Greatest Weapon

Post  Vic Vegas on Sat Sep 05, 2015 2:40 pm

Folks, might I recommend the stiletto as the latest implement of butt-kickery?

You want to defeat the hordes of CSers? How about the FASTEST weapon in the game that is designed to punch into armor, disarms very well, and can be thrown.

Those of you who have faced my EVISCETRYX (whom I consider to be the ULTIMATE stiletto elf design) know what I'm talking about. Oh, and please don't send him challenges right now, cuz he's busy going after 4x4, who is like putty in his hands, and seeing the devastation that 4x4 can wreak on his opponents, I do believe you guys want EVI to keep on facing him.

So, we have the the triumvirate of boar spear/javelin/trident, but I dare say there's a "new" kid on the block. Despite the lack of using charge with the stiletto, there's the obvious benefit of it being SUPER fast. I mean, SUPER-DUPER fast.

I've been sitting on this for a while, reluctant to share, but given the recent kvetching about weapons, I thought it would only be fair to share.

Granted, not everyone that I've talked to about the stiletto has had as much success as I, but I've been working on this weapon for quite some time now.

Go look up the JUST SOME ROCKS v INARI MITE monster fight for an example. And, I might add, JSR was not an ideal build for the weapon.

I currently have six gladiators running with the stiletto. It would have been seven... NEV!!!!

Here's a fun one for ya.... I (for some odd reason) made a low dex, high str/con/int halfling and he was faltering, so I gave him a stiletto/tower shield combo and he's gone 5-0-0 since then (11-5-0).

My finesse elf INNITOWINNIT was a dual shortsword elf who was losing WAY more than winning in the upper ranks. I converted him to stiletto and he's gone 12-9-0 (to include some trials with stiletto and an off-hand short sword). He went 9-12-0 in his fights leading up to the switch-over.

I just posted the stiletto monster fight to help inspire use of the weapon.

I've also seen it work with helves, though my attempt was a freak gladiator with a starting 23 str, who was died from natural causes (Ilneval!!!!).

Please, everyone, by all means, try this with other races as well.  I think humans would work well, but I haven't tried it.

If you have a rollup and want it to use the stiletto, feel free to send me a PM with any questions/ideas.

Had one named Needles that was 20-3-0 before the monster-mash. She was an elf stiletto combo, and was definitely going to be a top warrior in the long run (assuming no accidental deaths). I feel very confident that this combo will eat up counterstrikers of all types.

It has been about a year and a half since I've run a public gladiator, and with my most recent rollup, I can make a (hopefully) passable stiletto elf. His stats aren't ideal, but his natural 23 int could make him an interesting foe, if he lives long enough.

5-16-14-23-5-8

All of his fights will be posted here:
http://bloodpit.boardhost.com/5/

Since his str/dex/size aren't quite what I'd want, he may not do very well at first. We shall see. I think gPleb5 might be my smartest starting gladiator ever.

My deceased warrior Anka did well with stiletto's. For a a warrior who started with a 3 strength and an 8 dexterity, she ended up with a 40-31-2 record before her death. Stiletto's may not be highly damaging all the time, but their speed makes up for entirely.

Anka's starting stats: 3-8-18-18-12-12

Given that con/int combo, one would hope that ANKA trained like a demon! Certainly a much lower dex than I would recommend for proper stiletto carnage.

Shame about the 12 pre, if you had a 3/4/5 start and the rest was transferred to dex and a bit more on starting strength you would have had a demon. im assuming it was an elf.

yeah, she wase had a win an elf. She was the forth warrior in the slot when I started that team. I had monstered the first three for having 15+ pre each. I started her for I was tired of not being able to use the warrior slot. When I got a 12 pre warrior, lower than 15, I was willing to make do. She turned out descent in the end. Her kills were legitimately earned kills, not BC's. For how she started, she was enjoyable read. At the end, she had almost a perfect 20 round winning streak.

Free bit of advice: When you have a high-pre gladiator, don't waste any trains on pre.

Here disagree with you.  Albeit, I would train it last, but I would still train it.  It increases that warriors chances of coming out of a bad fight alive.  Furthermore, it increases a warriors chances of training.  I have come to times with a warrior who would refuse to train.  Throw in a couple or three trains of Pre and he/she starts training again.  Now this observation isn't always true for me but usually it is.  It increases the popularity score and increases a warrior's chances to unsettle the opponent. Training Pre will not make the damage increase or the number of attack per minute to go up, but I have won matches when my warrior was losing due to high Pre.  When that happens I can do nothing but laugh.

Townsend always described Pre as the least and most useful stat in the game.  Then again, he once told me that he would never throw away a character no matter that beginning roll-up.  I remember him telling me of a warrior of his named "Algebra."  Algebra was a warrior that he ran while out on the east coast for a convention.  I am not entirely sure about number of fights he told me to get to a tipping point..maybe 30 or 40.... but he went 11 straight rounds at that point with 11 kills.  He was and still is a better man that I...I monster warriors for looking too pretty....ugly ones are keepers.

Your experience with training pre and then getting other trains was happenstance. Pre doesn't help with trains. I understand that it helps with challenges/avoids and can help persuade the ref to let you kill a guy or not get killed yourself, but if you were to sink those pre trains into something more useful/deadly, then your gladiator wouldn't be in danger of death to begin with.

Are you now recanting what you said a few years ago on this site in the article with Xavier?

"Presence - (all from keeper, so this info is rock solid) Main factor in determining if you succeed in challenging/avoiding. Main factor in determining if a fight is stopped when you're dying. When a fight is stopped, winner is declared by who has greater hit points + presence. Chance to successfully intimidate someone is based on differential presence with your opponent.
(My own notes) - It appears that presence has a small beneficial effect on training stats and skills."

Yes, I know Xavier wrote it but you had your name right next to his in it.

There's a bunch of stuff that I copied over from the second Pitt (this is the third Pitt), so it has my name next to it.

I would take most manager's musings with a grain of salt, unless it comes from Dux. Wink

I disagree with Xavier on his pre musings.

I believe Dux and Ilneval also copied stuff from the second Pitt to this one, and some of the earlier postings on this Pitt might be carry-overs from the original Pitt. Sadly, almost everything from the original Pitt is gone as it just vanished overnight. The forums were so developed and rich with information, as it was from a time when Keeper and all the legendary managers of the game were active. A treasure trove of information went up in smoke. Sad Sad Sad

Hi Guys, been a while. Hope everyone is well.
I noticed that pre has come up in this conversation.
Jim always said he would never through a warrior away no matter what the stats and he kept his words,
but that was pride speaking. He was not about to admit there was a major flaw in the game, IMO.
Pre was there for magic and when magic was canned, pre was left dangling in the wind.
Pre needs a boost! I think there are a lot of ways to do it, but up til now the game has had and has maintained this glaring imbalance.
Anyway, I have had some good medium pre warriors, even great. Heck, one is a monster now and started with a 14? pre if I recall.
But, knowing how to milk everything out of a warrior helped in that case and some luck.
