Thanks Dux. Having not had much success with elfs before it's nice to see one of mine finally doing well. I changed his strategy sometime after his 5 kill because of his loss record, i was worried his kills would drop off but i needn't have worried, Its seems he is just a killing machine!

And with warriors like KD, who needs the monsters!

Amazing news this week as Modofo's gas dwarf, OL' FIREBELLY lights up the pit this turn by taking the #1 100 fight best win/loss of all time!!! The wins are exactly tied with SPLINTER but those two extra kills are very important! This is the second time someone has neared the 90% mark and just missed it. That is the new highbar to beat!!!

Hi everyone, the other day I took a look at DHoR and was comparing the lower level records to the higher level records (ie 50 fight records to 250 fight records), and I felt there was a problem in that although getting the best ever 50 record is incredible, that warrior had not done anything equivalent to the best ever 250 fight warrior. That got me thinking that I ought to consider weighting allocation of points more heavily for higher experience records. What I have come up with is as follows. If you look next to the titles of the categories, you will see what the point allocation is for that category. An example of the change would be the Best Ever 50 Fight category would go from 1-5 points, where as the 250 equivalent goes from 5-9 points! I have make Tourney Champions 15 points, Monsters 10 points and kept Contest winners at 5 points. Anyway, take a look! I think this looks feels more "right" to me than the way it was before. Of course calculations are a little more work, but not all that bad. This has changed up the ranks in the metric at the bottom, but I feel it is in a good way.

Rules:
1. Singles fighters only (a few manager vs. manager team fights are acceptable), but must be a small fraction of the fighter's experience.

2. Peasant team fights and elbow drop BCs (2X or more experience) will count against the warrior when the record is challenged.
*NOTE: Elbow-drop BC's and peasant team fights will essentially be calculated as losses if there is a challenger for that record spot. I will make note of warriors with such fights. However, if your warrior has been the recipient of elbow-drops, those fights (win or lose) can counteract an equal number of negative points that your warrior earned from winning by means of elbow-dropping on other warriors or doing peasant scum team fights.
     
Regarding Reverse Elbow-drops, (IE a 0 fight warrior BCing a 100 fight warrior 3x), the record of the fighter will be adjusted so as to reflect a fight history as if the reverse BC's had never happened. The method for doing that would be for said 100 fight warrior, to remove the wins of those fights then look at the 101,102,103 fights and put those wins and losses in the record to replace the three wins that were removed due to the Reverse BC's.  Many times this will result in more losses for the warrior in question, but the record will reflect only fights against authentic opponents and the automatic minus points that I used to give will no longer harm the warriors record status.

3. For kill related records, Elbow-drop and Reverse Elbow-drop BCs kills will be noted next to the warriors and will count against the record when challenged by another warrior. If, however you happen to kill the elbow-dropper as an underdog that kill can counteract a minus you earned from your own elbow-drop kill. If subtraction of BC kills results in a tie, the warrior with more kills (BC included) takes the record. Where two have the same number of kills (and there were no BC elbowdrops involved) the warrior who did it in fewer fights will win the record.

4. Kill points (warrior metric points) as a Monster will only be awarded if the challenging warrior had at least 50% fight experience relative to the monster and at least a 50% win/loss percentage.

* Dwarves with boarspears will not be eligible for any records due to a game balance issue with that combination

Was scanning over the oldest fighters, and noticed Scrub Factor was a halfling that lived 261 (142-119-3) fights, so I think he should be third on the halfling 250 win/loss record? I have no idea what his record was at 250 fights, though it had to be a winning one. I hate those empty slots! Poor half elves.

Fighters have to have a winning record to take even an empty slot, though, right? My Horc, Bobgoblin might live long enough, but he'd need to go 9-1 in his next 10 to qualify

15 points for Tourney Champion
10 points for Monster Slot
5 points for Contest Champion
1 point for every regular fight kill (elbow-drop BC kills are not counted)
1 point for every kill as a monster
Other categories show point totals next to their titles
*no point will be given for OLDEST WARRIOR records.

Does anyone have any feelings about the new metric?
It seems to me to be an improvement, but I am open to suggestion if there is any way to improve the rankings.

Hmmnnn. looking over this new metric list or the old one for that matter it is almost entirely made up of lungers, parriers and CSers. There is a bit of bash and WOS in there as well. Were any of these warriors using E&W in their twilight years? How about Decoy or Calc as a main-style? I would love to someday see a record breaking decoyer or E&Wer or some other lesser used style.

Well, considering no one has had any input on the new metric, and I really like the way it works (feeling it is a big improvement), I will use the new system as it is.

Also, I am thinking of making another area that keeps a history of all the warrrios that have ever been in the top 20 metric. It would be like Nev's Hall of Records, which never really came about because it requires voting. This might be a nice alternative to that. Vic, I wonder if you would be able to setup a special area on PITT where warriors could be recorded like that. Space for writeups and everything like Nev's Hall of Records.

The idea I have is that any warrior that made it at any time into the top 20 metric would be permanently entered there with their highest score ever achieved.

There could be four categories:
LORD OF THE PIT
GRAND MASTER
MASTER
CHAMPIONS

If you clicked on GRAND MASTER it would bring you to posts of each warrior.
For example:
<title> MISERY #2
Then to body of the post would be about the warrior (whatever the manager wanted to write about the warrior (usual warrior write-ups would suffice). Maybe some choice comments from other managers about the warrior would be cool too...

I love the idea. I can certainly try to make such a thing on Pitt. I'm guessing it would be a new sub-forum and each top 20 gladiator can have their own forum topic. That way there can be conversations regarding the warrior below any kind of write-up the manager would want to do. Existing write-ups can be moved to the new sub-forum. Or, the existing Blood Hall can be re-purposed as you suggested.

One of the things that I like about Nev's Hall of Fame is that it is not something people can just freely post on. For example, I would hate to see someone go to the Lord Darius section and then post bad stuff or argue or something like that, but at the same time I think managers should be able to make respectful comments about his life and times. I am not sure how that balance can be achieved. Maybe there is a way that posts are invisible until they are okayed or something like that....

But anyway, I think you get the general idea. Maybe we could play with several formats until a good one comes about that feels right.

Hmmmnn....was just looking at the new metric and the only part that seems to stick with me as being imbalanced possibly is the kill ratings.
Looking at Ultimate for example, the only thing he ever did was kill very well (well incredibly well), and he got 13 points for the kills directly and then 7 more points for being ranked as a top killer overall and by race. I wonder is that giving too much power to killing? It is by far and away the most awarded thing, which may be a good thing considering that the game is called Blood Pit.
Anyway, this one is a toughy for me to decide on. Maybe I could reduce the range of points given for the top kill rankings a wee bit to balance it out a bit more with the other record metric ranges. Then again, maybe we should award the heck out of killing to inspire more killing. Thoughts?

A fair point. Ultimate is a one-trick pony, but don't we all wish we had that one one-trick pony?

Hey Vic, in the event that you are going to put together that section where top 20 warriors will be permanently entered, I decided to go back and find a marker point where I felt that the Metric had matured enough that the warriors on it should be permanently recorded.
If you go back and look at DHoR page 23, I think that is a good place to start. There have been some significant refinements since then, but I feel safe to say any warrior listed at that point deserves the recognition.

Unfortunately we no longer have his write-up, since it was lost when the original Pitt went down.

I'm wondering if we should just make one topic for the Top 20 and then let each warrior have his own message thread? That might be a bit cleaner. I can always manually moderate any off-topic posts or new messages that might pop up.
